Chitown's game of the week: Intursion

To be honest I didn’t really like Intursion when I first played it. I thought it was just another glitch filled platformer. Just another game, but it’s more than just a “platformer”. It’s a kickass old school platformer! I feel like I should be playing it on an old NES Gamepad, not a keyboard. It’s just a well put together old school platformer that gets better the more you play it.

Graphics 10/10
The game has very rich deep levels with wonderful backgrounds. It just has a very polished feeling when you start to really look around. Not to mention how good the art and animations are. I can’t recall a flash platformer with better graphics off-hand.

Gameplay 9/10
Ah gameplay, the bread and butter of any good game; and Intursion does not disappoint. The game runs smooth and controls very nicely (Still want the gamepad though!). The levels are designed nicely and each has its own different element that keeps the repetitiveness to a minimum. The game also has a few different weapons and enemies, and while it would have been nice to have more, there’s more than enough to keep you entertained. One complaint: I would have liked to have a few more specialty units. You get to be in a giant robot once, that’s it. More of that would be sweet!

Sound 10/10
The game has some of the best sound effects I’ve ever heard in a flash game. And it has sound effects for everything. Perfect in this department!

Bug report 8/10
It can “glitch” at times E.G I once knocked the final boss off the rocket and had to restart because I couldn’t continue the game. Other then stuff like that happening there isn’t much to complain about.

Scoring 10/10
It has everything it should, and was set up perfect for badges. Win!

Overall 10/10 (5/5)
I think why I went from not really caring for the game, to enjoying it a lot is that it really started to remind me of a classic side scrolling goodness. Not to mention the fact that when you really start to look at the game you start to see all the details, making you appreciate it even more. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for the sequel. Maybe the next one will have a two paragraph story in the instruction booklet too. ;-P
