New Hall of Fame

How about a hall of fame for any game? Cause since there are a lot of games on Kong so why dont we choose the best of the games? If anyone sees a game that should be voted for then post a comment. And Chi can look at them and make a Poll.

Congratulations to TheGhostGamer, Ukiegirl, Ferretferret, Dragoness188 and OuTrIgHtChAoS for make the DM1 hall of fame. You may see the hall of fame here.

Also note I'm not going to start another Hall of fame pole for a month or so, I don't want to underscore what going into the hall of fame means by putting to many people into it.

P.S. Any ideas on what type of poll we should have in the mean time?

Acrony night!

A new tradition has started! Acrony night! Every Saturday night in the near future we're going to have a little party in the multiplayer game acrony.

In acrony you are given an acronym and you have to make a sentence out of the acronym. like this: D.M.I.T.B.R.O.K= Digg mark1 is the best room on kong. It's really fun and is mostly just people goofing off, but it's definitely worth checking out!

Just a warning...it tends to get highly inappropriate, so if you question whether your parents would allow you to play it, please sit this one out.

Competition #5: Bombs Away!

Yes i am indeed releasing this challenge slightly early as i am not here tomorrow... This weeks challenge game is Detonate 2, also a large thanks for Chitown for leading me to this game =D In Detonate 2 you must defend a town from a weird little black ball equipped with a propeller, bombs... and multiple facial expressions? This black nuisance is dropping bombs on the town for some un-established reason. You must catch these bombs and [obviously] detonate them. Different colored bombs are detonated different ways, some you must click and some you must throw at other bombs and some can even damage the enemy... You also get a little surprise if you damage the enemy enough times ;D This weeks challenge is to reach as high of a score as possible and the score is automatically submitted once you finish the game so no need to worry! Good luck and Have Fun!!!

.:CHALLENGE ENDS: FRIDAY SEPTEMBER 5th:.

News from the orange side

First off I would like to send a big congratulation to TheGhostgamer, who has become a mod. I can say right now he'll be a great addition to the DM1 Mod Squad. So, leave him a congratulatory shout or else...

You may also notice (Hopefully you won't!) that there is a new type of banning. We call it "silencing", which is about what it really is. Getting silenced is pretty much like getting banned, except you may remain on your account; just not communicate in any way on the site. Also anyone whose name is grey in the chat is silenced.

What it feels like to be silenced.

A little reminder

I’ve noticed that DM1 has been getting a bit wild during the afternoon lately, so I thought it would be a smart idea to go over some things again.

1) Don’t over use caps. Using caps for one message, or making a word “caped” to really get a point across is fine, but doing it over and over again is just too much. Caps can be fun in limited quantities.

2) Use “language” appropriately. I don’t have a problem with swearing as long as said user uses it appropriately E.G. “Damn I couldn’t beat that boss again!” Remember: Don’t over use “language”, and don’t direct it at other users.

3) Just don’t be a jerk. That simple.

A few tips on how to handle trouble

1) If mods are present let them handle the trouble, and DON’T try to help be attacking the trouble maker.

2) If no mods are present you my mini mod a bit (Just a bit!). Just remember that when the trouble gets out of hand to call another mod. Use modfriend to find an active mod and let them handle it.

And here’s a link to the conduct guidelines.

Hello, it is once again time for a new weekly challenge to begin... For this week's game, I have chosen the game Drift. In this game you are a shark who must make his way to the large circle which signifies the end of each course without running into any obsticals like walls, red spiky ball things.. Etc. To do so you must pull yourself using little white balls called nodes. This weeks challenge, you must fling through all 16 levels as fast as possible. The people who can do this the fastest shall win.

Ikariam Update

Some Ikariam news for all of the Ikariam-Iota players (and others) within the blog.

First off, we were in the middle of a war, which, due to a plethora of political issues and time bounds has ended. S_H (sky hawks) v.s. KONG (Kongregate) is no more.

Second, Kram, our Kongregate alliance leader in Iota has become the number 1 player in all of Iota. Congratulations to him.

Thirdly, several of our players have broken 100k points and have joined the 100k club. These new members include Drakkose, Neeko, gnomer and Lord Dazzer for a total of 5 members (including Kram). There are also several other members who are quickly making their way to reaching this goal. Congratulations to all of you.

Our alliance Kong has also reached 13th place in total score in all of Iota, passing several other alliances in a very short time and jumping up from 17th.

Also, no recent updates on the Ikariam vote for the new alliance administration (Diplomat, General and Home Secretary), but those will surface soon.

That's all for your Ikariam update.

Let the true games begine!

Get your popcorn ready, because DM1 is about to have a Kongai tournament. Okay so we need either 16 or 32 players, or somewhere in between, maybe even 48 if we can get that many.

Rules:

To join, either leave me a shout or leave a comment. Please give your Kongai record, I will need them to seed the tournament!

All matches will be 3 cards!

You may use pre-made decks, but you have the option of using random cards if you wish!

Rounds will be played within a few days (No set time you have to play a match at!), if everyone is having trouble finding their opponent I will give extra time for the round. I also may issue a 24hour deadline if a couple matches are holding everyone up. If the match is still not finished the higher seed will advance (Unless they are the inactive ones, I reserve the right to choose!)
You do not need to be a “true reg” to join! If DM1 is one of your main rooms you my join!

That’s about it, I’ll post when we have enough people, hopefully we can get 32!

Competition #3 Click Away!

Yes it's that time again... Time for a new competition of course! This weeks game is Click Mania, the main objective of this game is to guide your little blue ball to the finish while avoiding the obstacles such as walls and moving objects. To do you so must move your cursor to the place you wish to go. But the ball will not follow you until you click. The faster you complete each level the more points you obtain. Also your only have a certain amount of moves to get the ball to the finish so you can't take your sweet time either :P This weeks competition is to get as many points as you can. So go forth and get those points!!!

The Hall

The Digg Mark 1 Hall of Fame is where we dedicate a little space for DM1’s best, as voted on by you.

First ballot 'Hall-of-famers' (In a random order)

Spartakips-Sparta, as most call him, has been in DM1 for well over a year. During this time he has went from a troll, to a moderator. Sparta’s awesomeness is only smaller then his giant amount of coolness. He also is developing a huge game in the making, Konquest! He also in my opinion has one of the best names and avatars on Kongregate! Not to mention the fact he is the best gamer in DM1!

ItBeNickYo
-He may only be 17, but he is as close to “the fun uncle” as DM1 is ever going to get. Nick, like Sparta, has also been in DM1 for well over a year and is a true “hall-of-famer”. Nick is also a hardcore badge hunter and is second in DM1 badge totals, only to spartakips. Just look out everyone, for should you try to hug him he will rip out your soul and send you to “Ban-land”!

EverLovely-She may not only be the nicest person in DM1, but in all of Kongregate. She is loved by everyone in DM1, and her room the Castle. Ever also is one of the fairest mods in all of Kongregate. Yeah, she pretty much goes to the “top of the charts” in everything she does. Just remember not to worship her to much ;-)

Joshhh-Josh is one of DM1’s nicest and most helpful users. Also known as the link master, (:P!) Josh is always ready to help a user in need; making him one of the more popular users in DM1. Josh also now owns Lantea but still comes back to DM1 often, while still managing to help other modless rooms.

Chitown15
-Chi took over DM1 in December of last year, and hasn’t really left since. He is the highest level user in DM1, and25th in all of Kongregate. He tries to help when asked, but can sometimes fail due to his giant amount of laziness. He also is a very bad developer who somehow made a game with a rating around 3.00. That’s about it…(The writing something about myself in the third-person and referring to myself as chi is a little freaky!)

Chi's words: "Thanks everyone for voting me in! Thanks everyone who helps the DM1, you guys make the room! I really shouldn’t have been voted in over some of the people up, but thanks anyway. Hopefully they get in soon! A lot of people thought I was an idiot when I took DM1 8 or so months ago, it makes me so glad to prove them wrong! Thanks again everyone!!"

Wizky-Wizky, or “The1wizkid” has been on Kongregate for over a year, and moved to DM1 from the Van a few months ago, and has been one of the more popular users since. Wizky also is a developer, and good gamer, making him fit right into DM1. He also has gotten more underage users banned then I [chitown15] have in almost a year of being a mod. Not sure if that’s a good a bad thing, but he’s pretty darn good at it. Just remember to look out for his brother…

Second ballot hall of famers (in random order)

TheGhostGamer
-Ghost has been on Kongregate, and in DM1 for almost a year. During this time he has always been helpful, always respectful, and always a joy to have around. He also has recently become a mod, and deservedly so. Ghost is also a very good writer, and blog contributor. He is also an amateur developer, and one of DM1’s three current “DMs”.

Ukiegirl
-Ukie is another DM1 who has been on the site and in DM1 for almost a year. When she first came into DM1 she was a bit of a trouble maker, but after a while, and a couple bans, she has become one of the most popular users in DM1 and hasn’t been banned in about 6 months (which is over a year in internet time ;) ). Ukie is also a great gamer and has a TON of badges! She is also looking like she’ll join the 40 level club easily by the end of the year.

Dragoness188
-Dness was DM1’s first true home-grown mod, and one of the nicest people you will meet on Kongregate. While not near as active as she used to be; she is still well known in DM1, and remains one of the more popular users. She also took over AAA for a few months before giving it up to Kesse due to a large amount of school work. She also is another of DM1’s great gamers and before going somewhat inactive had a very high badge count. Here’s hoping that you come back D!

OuTrIgHtChAoS- Chaos used to be one of DM1’s bigger trouble makers, but quickly reformed when a more moded DM1 came into place. Chaos is now one of DM1’s finest users, and is great to be around. He is also DM1’s best developer, and has already made some really good games, with even more on the way. He also is a good gamer and high level user. Not to mention the fact that he has been in DM1 almost as long as anyone that is still active. He is a true hall of famer.

Ferretferret
-Ferret is one of the newest DM1ers to make the hall of fame. He is also one of DM1s more popular users, and is one of DM1 zoo’s most popular attractions (:P)! Ferret is always nice to others, and has never caused problems, and is always trusted to help out when in need…..*Pets the fuzzah*…..

Third ballot hall of famers (in random order)
02/03/09

00_Juice_00: Juice moved to Digg Mark 1 roughly 7 months ago from AAA. Since then Juice has been one of the most popular users in DM1. He also is one of Kongregate’s premier avatar makers. And has made a bunch of avatars for the regs of DM1, some of the best might I add! He also is one of the more active writers on the blog.

Andyroo: Andy is going on a year of being a Digg Mark 1 regular and is one of Digg Mark 1’s most mature regs, and is always helpful when it comes to getting badges. Andy is also one of Digg Mark 1’s best gamers. And is close to reaching level 40, making him one of DM1’s higher level users.

Dragonflame997: Dragonflame997, or DF as most call him. Has been a regular visitor of DM1 for many months, and he is now calling DM1 his main home, to everyone’s enjoyment. DF has been a member of Kongregate (So help me god MS word I want it to start with a K!) for a good part over a year; and is also a long time moderator. He is AFK a lot, though not as much as people think, and he likes Donkeys very much ;)

oceanix: oceanix, with a lower case o mind you, has been a reg of DM1 since before he even signed up, whereupon he was moded within 5 minutes on Kongregate. How is that possible? He used to be SirKoolAid. But moved to oceanix for some crazy reason (Ask him!). But anyways, oceanix/SKA has been visiting DM1 since May of last year, and is one of the most loved people in DM1. He also is an amateur developer with a game on the way…. Call him SKA!

TaoJoe: Taojoe (Or Tao as most call him) has been a member of Kongregate and DM1 for nearly a year; and is Digg Mark 1’s newest mods, and probably one of DM1’s smartest regs. Tao’s normally on earlier in the day, where he has been known to playfully hit on everlovely (Don’t we all? ;P). Tao also is quite a good gamer, and will always let you know if there’s a deal at Denny’s.

Games section

Dolphin Olympics 2: Dolphin Olympics is a very addicting game where you jump and spin a dolphin through space. Welcome to the world of flash games! :P Easily the best part of Dolphin Olympics is the replay value, the game is so addicting, one can find themselves playing it for hours at a time. And if you don’t need a reason to play it already, Dolphin Olympics has many badges.

Kongai: Kongai, is kongregate’s master piece thus far. Kongai is a multiplayer card game with is rooted into the site. Kongai is a rich, strategy deep game where you must use the cards you’ve earned through the challenges into beating your opponent. The quality of Kongai comes from just having fun challenging your friends. Everyone is going to want to use their cards to try to beat on others; and there’s a fair amount of fun just making your deck.

Sonny: Sonny is one of the special, rare games, where a zombie is actually a good guy! Forget the great voice attacking, wonderful game mechanics, great graphics, and awesome reply value…You get to play a good zombie! How awesome is that?!

Chitown's game of the week: Intursion

To be honest I didn’t really like Intursion when I first played it. I thought it was just another glitch filled platformer. Just another game, but it’s more than just a “platformer”. It’s a kickass old school platformer! I feel like I should be playing it on an old NES Gamepad, not a keyboard. It’s just a well put together old school platformer that gets better the more you play it.

Graphics 10/10
The game has very rich deep levels with wonderful backgrounds. It just has a very polished feeling when you start to really look around. Not to mention how good the art and animations are. I can’t recall a flash platformer with better graphics off-hand.

Gameplay 9/10
Ah gameplay, the bread and butter of any good game; and Intursion does not disappoint. The game runs smooth and controls very nicely (Still want the gamepad though!). The levels are designed nicely and each has its own different element that keeps the repetitiveness to a minimum. The game also has a few different weapons and enemies, and while it would have been nice to have more, there’s more than enough to keep you entertained. One complaint: I would have liked to have a few more specialty units. You get to be in a giant robot once, that’s it. More of that would be sweet!

Sound 10/10
The game has some of the best sound effects I’ve ever heard in a flash game. And it has sound effects for everything. Perfect in this department!

Bug report 8/10
It can “glitch” at times E.G I once knocked the final boss off the rocket and had to restart because I couldn’t continue the game. Other then stuff like that happening there isn’t much to complain about.

Scoring 10/10
It has everything it should, and was set up perfect for badges. Win!

Overall 10/10 (5/5)
I think why I went from not really caring for the game, to enjoying it a lot is that it really started to remind me of a classic side scrolling goodness. Not to mention the fact that when you really start to look at the game you start to see all the details, making you appreciate it even more. Hopefully we won’t have to wait long for the sequel. Maybe the next one will have a two paragraph story in the instruction booklet too. ;-P

Buried Treasure Week Game #5

Before i begin i would to say Thanks to Chitown15 *Cough* Review Stealer *Cough* for covering the 4th buried treasure week game. It is the 5th and final day of this Buried Treasure Week (Yes i said first as in there may be more) and it closes with a relatively difficult game... The Final Canopy is a game where you take the place of a faerie searching for a long lost bird. But it's not as simple is that because that would make a pretty stupid game XD, like most games, there are many enemies in your way... You must shoot down their high-tech spaceship robot things with your own attacks (When faeries and robots coexisted i have no clue) . Your main faerie has an attack but it is way more effectives if you use your little friends, little white balls, which can absorb other enemies powers. But they can only hold a power for so long.

REVIEW

Game Play - 29/30
Very good game play, fairly challenging although little replay value.

Sound - 6/10
Poor background music and rare sound effects give this game hard on the ears :P

Graphics 9/10
Great background/effect graphics although poor character graphics.

Creativity - 20/20
Great twist on classic 2D shooter games.

Controls - 16/20
A combination of mouse and keyboard controls make this game slightly awkward to play.

Tilt - 9/10
Cool game, little short though.

Buried Treasure Week Game #4

Jumpcat does not this disappoint its name. In Jumpcat, you well, Jump a cat! And come on, don’t say you have never wanted to jump a cat. I’m pretty sure we all have every now and then! Jumpcat offers all the control schemes you could want and plays nicely. You get to dodge all of a cat’s normal everyday obstacles: rocks, trees, rolling boulders, helicopters, missiles, ECT. And you thought it was easy being a cat! No wonder they seem to sleep 23 hours a day (This is what they do the one hour a day they actually move!). The real trick in jump cat is getting to the 1000 point combo bonus and staying there. There really isn’t much to say about Jumpcat, and I’m running out of bad puns, so go play it!....NOW!

Gameplay 25/30
It runs nice and smooth, controls great, and is pretty addicting!

Sound 7/10
It has decent background music, and has the few sound effects the game needs. Jumpcat doesn't go out of it's way to impress you in the sound department, but does everything it should!

Graphics 8/10
Not much to say, the art is pretty good, and there really isnt much to ask for other then a deeper background.

Creativity 20/20
You jump a cat, over helicopters. 'Nuff said.

Controls 20/20
Jumpcat has every type of control you could want.

Tilt 10/10
I like cats, i like jumping. And Editundo was one of my first friends on Kongregate, so there!

Overall 90/100

Buried Treasure Week Game #3

We are half way done the infamous Buried Treasure Week and the third game of the week is Parachute Retrospect. Who needs parachutes when you can drop your little stick men past flying rockets and laser beams, and hopefully they don't get julienned by the many pikes and mobile saw as they fly toward the trailers of cotton balls, Oops they landed on the railer full of death spikes instead... Same difference... Indeed, your goal is to drop your courageous little stick men out of a helicopter without hitting any of the many obstacles and land on the piles of fluff and get dragged off to god knows where by one of the many mysterious truck drivers... And you also encounter a strange globe like stick man vending machine where your goal is to catch the tick men it shoots out in a.. metal basket? Ouch much?

REVIEW

Game Play - 28/30
Great idea, loads of fun while still challenging, although slightly short and no replay value.

Sound - 9/10
Great background music, really gives the game more effect although no sound effects other than the ding when you get a stick man in a truck.

Graphics - 8/10
Sprites could use a bit more detail, helicopter animation looks choppy but other than that great job!

Creativity - 20/20
It's impossible to say that mobile saws robot things and globe-like stick man vending machines aren't creative XD

Controls - 20/20
Simple controls, definitely not awkward.

Tilt - 9/10
Unique idea, also very amusing, but a little short.

Buried Treasure Week Game #2

It is day number two of Buried Treasure Week and already no one can wait for the next game. Well like our weekly competition, they have chosen Cirplosion as today's game. As i have already explained, it is like Filler, with a twist... After making your ball as large as possible your next goal is to fit as many of the other balls as you can within the ball you just created. There are three different modes, Normal in which you play 20 levels where you pass the level if you can destroy all the balls with a limited amount of "Cirplosions". Challenge where you must do the same only there is only one possible way to complete the level and it is up to you to find out or Cirvival where you must destroy the balls to raise your constantly depleting time bar, once the time bar empties it's game over for you.

REVIEW

Game Play - 26/30
Good concept, But gets kind of repetitive after a while. Some of the challenges really make you think although very little replay value.

Sound - 9/10
Ok background music gets slightly annoying after a while though, no unnecessary sound effects.

Graphics - 4/10
It is a game that does not require significantly detailed graphics but the game looks kind of bland.

Creativity - 16/20
Pretty creative, not too many detailed ideas though.

Controls - 20/20
Very straight forward and simple to use.

Tilt - 9/10
I think this game should get more credit than it is receiving, mostly because it is a unique concept.

The Battle for New Haven, An Amorphous+ Story (Part 2)

Part 2
Z looked into his town, and marveled at the destruction. A majority of the building still stood, but many were nothing more then piles of rubble. Blood, both human and gloople, stained the streets.
The warriors slowly walked to the main gate, in silence. They moved with purpose, with passion. They knew what they must do, and they knew their chances of survival were minimal.
When they had all assembled, John stood and addressed his men.
“We tread where few have gone before, straight into the heart of a nest. This will not be easy. There is a good chance none of us will come back, but we can wait no longer. If we don’t stop these monsters, our city will never be safe. Today, we fight for our town, our families, and we will not let these bastards live. Today, we take the fight to them!”
The chorus of yells sang out into the stale morning air. Boots crunched over the cold ground as ten warriors set out to their destiny. Z took one last look at his New Haven, and hoped dearly to see it again.

The nest wasn’t far. Within two hours of trekking over the cold, mountainous grasslands, the warriors had encountered Greens. Greens were no threat on their own, but Greens normally stayed close to the nest.
The humans slowly moved up a particularly large hill, when the ground around them shifted. The warriors quickly raised their weapons, forming a circle on the side of the hill. The ground around them erupted with Greens. Hundreds of Greens poured from the ground, surrounding the meager human forces. The Glooples charged.
The humans began cutting into the Greens forces. Z raised his sword and hacked at the nearest Greens. Within seconds, nearly half the Greens were nothing more then splatters. Z pulled his sword out of a Green, and saw movement from the corner of his eye. It was blue. He turned quickly, and nearly dropped his sword. On top the hill, an army of Biters.
Z yelled to his fellow warriors, but over the sound of battle, no one heard him. He tried again, but it was too late. Biters flew down the hill. The warriors took notice of the new threat, and quickly turned to face the oncoming enemies, ignoring the Greens all together.
The forces collided. Biters swarmed around the humans, jumping at each warrior. The veteran warriors knew how to deal with this. They raised their swords and a defense posture and waited for the Biters to contact the swords. Biters splattered the ground with their blood. Unfortunately, a single human was caught off guard. A Biter smashed him in the abdomen. He collided to the ground. For a second the human was stunned, he looked down to see a large hole where his stomach would be. He slowly brought his hand to the gaping wound. Without warning, another Biter leapt into the air. The Biter landed on the fallen warrior, and shredded him in an instant.
The remaining humans finished off the Biter army with no more casualties. The warriors gathered around what used to be their friend, now nothing more then a large pool of blood.
Trevor spoke first. “Poor Seph…He wa-” His eulogy was cut short, when a large gray spike exploded from his chest. Everyone was stunned. Trevor looked down, and the spike retracted. He fell to the ground.
Everyone quickly raised their weapons, and faced their attacker. It was a Gloople sub-species known as “Grays”. Grays were formed when 3 Greens combine into a single entity. Unlike the Greens, however, the Grays were one of the most dangerous Gloople. They had an unusually hard membrane that covered their bodies, and are able to temporally soften the membrane to attack. Their attack is a large spike that that protrudes from their body. The spike is strong enough to pierce steal. When their spike is retracted, they are nearly impossible to kill. When they soften their membrane to use their spike is the only opportunity to attack.
The Gray attacked again, but this time the warriors were prepared. They dodged the attack and began to rush the creature.
The Gray attacked again, narrowly missing John. They were almost upon the beast, when another spike lanced across the grassland. This one found its target. A warrior was hit square in the chest. He flew backwards and was flung from the Grays weapon.
“Now!” John yelled over the sounds of battle. The warriors raised their swords and slashed at the monstrosity. The Gloople attempted to retract his spike, but was unable to. The warriors hacked away at the beast until it exploded into a pile of slime.
With the main threat gone, the warriors scanned the hill for any other attackers. There were none. With nearly a third of their force killed, the warriors finally reached the top of the hill.
“My god…” Alex whispered as the warriors stared at their doom; before them sat a Gloople nest of unimaginable proportion. Hundreds of Greens mindlessly went about their tasks, all guarding a cave that held their queen. Biters and Grays patrolled the perimeter, with many more sub-species thrown into the fray.
“Looks like we need a plan.” John said as he looked upon an army of slime.

“Ok, here is what we are going to do.” John laid that plan out for the remaining warriors. “Myself, Z, and Alex with sneak around to the entrance. Everyone else, charge the main entrance…You will distract the main Gloople force, while we sneak in and kill the queen.” John sighed “I’m sorry…” he managed.
The four warriors he sent on a suicide mission just looked at him, and nodded. They slowly got up, cleaned their swords, and prepared to charge the Gloople army.
Z followed John around the outside of the Gloople nest, careful to avoid detection by the patrolling Biters.
Z’s party managed to get fairly close to the cave entrance, but there were too many Glooples for them to proceed. They waited for a few moments, then without warning the guards started moving to the front of the nest.
Good luck Z thought as his team quickly ran to the nest entrance. Z could barely hear a battle going on, and scanned the land. He saw nothing but a mass of monsters.
The warriors entered the cave, and ran into the inner chamber. If they killed the Gloople Queen, the rest of the glooples in the nest would slowly die. Without the guidance of a queen, most glooples can’t survive.
Z entered the main chamber, his eyes straining in the darkness. As his eyes adjusted, he slowly realized what he was seeing; in the center of the chamber, a monster. The Queen was massive, much larger then the other glooples. It had a relatively small body, about 2 meters across, but what set it apart were two giant scythe-like arms, each 6 meters in length.
The Queen quickly noticed the intruders and wasted no time attacking, its massive arms cutting threw the air. The warriors quickly ducked. John let out a yell and charged the beast. The Queen quickly sliced at John, but he ducked under the lethal blades in a impressive display. He ran up to the main body to attack, but the Queen quickly moved away. John was momentarily caught off-guard, but it was all the Queen needed.
With a single slice, John fell to the cold cavern floor, his torso separating from his legs.
Alex and Z yelled for their fallen friend, and charged the monster. The Queen attempted to half their advance, but the warriors were determined and dodges her attacks. The got within sword range, but the Queen quickly moved away again. The warriors anticipated this, however, and again charged the Queen. They almost got within range again, but Alex tripped over a large stone. He managed to stop himself from falling, but was not able to stop two large blades from puncturing his chest. The Queen flung the warrior to the ground and sliced once more at Z.
Z dodged the attack and attacked the Queen. With a powerful thrust, Z’s sword smashed into the Queens unprotected body. The Queen let out a scream. Z held his sword in place. The Queen began to thrash, and Z felt a sharp pain in his back. He looked down to see two large blades protruding from his abdomen.
With a screech, the Queen flung the warrior against a wall. Z smacked into the wall and heard a loud crunch. He slowly looked up to see the Queen fall to the ground, dead. He managed a small smile before darkness overtook him.

Amorphous+ Review

Amorphous+ is a recent addition to Kongregate, and has quickly became a favorite amongst most of the Kongregate populace. In it's few weeks, it has already spawned a short story (which I hear is really good). The game itself is unique, in gameplay and idea. The gameplay revolves around a single character clearing nests of a creature known as Glooples. With each mouse click, the hero swings a large sword, cutting into the Glooples forces. It may get slightly repetitive, but this is a very imaginative game with many great ideas executed perfectly.

Gameplay-9/10
Although it can get a little repetitive, the gameplay is quite solid.

Sound-9/10
A great soundtrack of songs, plus the in-game sounds are great.

Graphics-10/10
The graphics are amazing for a flash game, particularly the inventive character deaths.

Controls-9/10
They can be awkward at times, but overall they are great.

Final Score:
9/10
A great game worth playing.

Buried Treasure Week Game #1

It is the beginning of the first Buried Treasure Week and the game has just been revealed... Dog  Eat Dog! It is a game where the main objective is to grow to as big of a size as you can. You are a dog, you must eat other dogs to grow, but when you try to eat a bigger dog than yourself, it eats you. It shares a likeness with the game "Fishy" by Xgen Studios. But there are a couple of differences, One it is a bird's eye view game so you can go four way instead of two, but the other dogs can also come from any of the four directions. The only thing that i dislike about this game is the collision physics are slightly off. In other words it may think you ran into a bigger dog when you are still about 8 pixels away from it. So  take my advice and stay as far away from the larger dogs as possible. But other than that i  have nothing to complain about so for this game.

REVIEW

Game Play - 25/30
Excellent game, Bad contact physics and slightly hard to tell whether you can eat a dog or not.

Sound - 10/10
Nice background music and a bark when you eat a dog, no unnecessary sounds.

Graphics - 8/10
Pretty good graphics, some of the dogs look more like cows and pandas than dogs though.

Creativity - 11/20
A creative spin on an already existent game.

Controls - 20/20
Nice controls, not awkward to use.

Tilt - 8/10
I enjoy the game a lot but it gets slightly annoying after a while.

.:TOTAL:.
81/100

The Battle for New Haven, An Amorphous+ Story

(Play Amorphous+ before reading)
A GhostGamer story (Thanks to Teh_awsomeness for help/ideas)

Background
They had come in the night. A meteor crashed to Earth, spreading a cloud of debris into the air. Scientist clustered around the largely intact rock. The asteroid landed in Texas, in a largely unpopulated region. After months of artificial darkness, the debris and dust cleared. Emmanuel Sampson, the lead scientist, decided to send in the first scout teams. He, and the other scientist, believed this to be the greatest discovery in years. They were correct, for the wrong reasons. The first scouts went in, and were instantly attacked by an alien race. Apparently living on the asteroid, this alien race of sentient slime quickly absorbed the scouts, and began their invasion of the surrounding area. Within 23 days, the whole state of Texas had been infested with multiple nests of the alien globs. The United States military mounted a large counter-offensive, attempting to push back the invaders. The military, apparently thinking their superior weapons and technology would win the fight, charged multiple Slime monster nests. It was the biggest military failure in history.

Remember to click read more to finish reading an article!

It was a mistake. The newly named Glooples, with their gelatinous bodies, simply absorbed the bullets from the guns. Most of the forces were destroyed; the ones who survived reported many different varieties of Glooples, including a very aggressive “Biters” style. Even the American tanks were destroyed by very large Glooples, which simply enveloped and dissolved the massive tanks. Even bombing runs failed. Although the Glooples, with their alcohol based bodies, were highly susceptible to the large bombs (More the resulting fires), the fighters simply could not reach the nests. They Gloople nests were deep in the ground, and no weapons could penetrate them. Whenever a nest was destroyed (very rare), another 10 took its place. The Glooples multiplied too fast for any major counter.
Within 40 years, most human cities were destroyed, and virtually the whole world was infested with countless Gloople nests. Human survivors established towns and villages in remote locations, hoping to avoid detection by the Glooples, and for the most part succeeded. Over the next few years, almost no humans were killed by Glooples, and, to top it off, humanity finally discovered a way to stop the Glooples. Reverting to medieval times, they re-adopted the sword and shield. Glooples body, while able to absorb bullets, was not capable of surviving a sword swing. The sword, with its large impact area, apparently hit major organs of the Glooples, splattering them on the spot.
Most Gloople types are only about 2 foot tall, but they were still very aggressive and dangerous.
Multiple human encampments launched surprise attacks on nests. The attacks were an astounding success. With this new-found killing method, the humans rallied, hell bent on exterminating all the Glooples, and reclaiming their planet…

Part 1
Zack “Z” Michaels polished his sword as he looked incoherently out his window. His village, New Haven, Was small, with only 1000 people. But it was Gloople free for nearly 3 years. Zack sheathed his sword and set it upon his mantle. He grabbed a book and sat next to the fireplace. After reading for nearly an hour, he set the book aside and walked slowly to his bedroom, nearly tripping on his own carpet.
“Damn carpet” he muttered to himself as he slid into bed. Within a few seconds he was fast asleep.
Zack was only 20, so he didn’t know a world without Glooples. When he was seven, his town was attacked by the Glooples, resulting in the loss of his family. He swore revenge soon after.
Alarm. Z heard the sound of an alarm, and moved to shut off his alarm clock. But he quickly realized something was wrong. His alarm was never this loud.
“The city alarm!” He said as he jumped out of bed and grabbed his sword. There was only one reason the alarm would sound. The Glooples had found them.
He rushed outside, and we meet by his closed friend and neighbor, Alex.
“What’s going on” Alex yelled over the roar of the sirens. Z noticed Alex also had his sword.
Z just nodded, and the both ran to the city gate. Most of the remaining human settlements erected large walls around the cities. Glooples apparently had trouble climbing walls.
Z and Alex arrived by the front gate, and were greeted by a majority of the other warriors in the village. Trevor, another of Z’s friends, ran to them.
“Lookout says it’s a small army, probably a nest nearby!” Trevor yelled.
Z cursed to himself and prepared for an onslaught. In most recorded Gloople attacks, the main force consisted of Green Glooples. Although they were inherently dangerous, they provide excellent cannon fodder for the main attack force, which consisted of the highly aggressive Biters.
“What the…?” Z heard the lookout say. “Uh…There…We have a problem! The Glooples are rushing with Melties!” Melties are another form of Gloople, but much more dangerous then most. Melties have highly acidic bodies, and with contact with anything (including other Glooples) with explode. The fluid inside their body reacts with the oxygen, forming a small puddle of acid, capable of breaking down most organic matter in seconds.
This was new. In all his years, Z had never seen, nor even heard of Glooples rushing in with Melties.
“Fire the cannons!” Someone yelled over the still roaring sirens. Even though Glooples are immune to most ballistic weaponry, large cannon and artillery rounds still do considerable damage.
A volley of cannons sang out into the night. Z watched as the night sky was lit up but exploding cannon rounds. In the back of his mind he knew it wouldn’t be enough. What Glooples lacked in intelligence and strategy, they made up for with numbers.
Z climbed up the wall to get a better view of Gloople forces. He gazed upon a massive force. For a second, he almost gave into his terror and ran, but he quickly calmed himself and regained control. Even with the constant cannon fire, the Gloople force came ever closer to the small human village. A few more cannon volleys and they would be upon them. Luckily, all the non-warriors of the village had retreated, which only left 200 or so people left.
Z jumped down and un-sheathed his sword. The wall would hold for a while, but against that many Melties, it wouldn’t last very long. Z stood in the darkness, waiting. Suddenly, a horrible splat sounded from the other side of the wall, followed by loud hissing.
The acid is melting the wall Z thought as he readied his weapon.
The Spearmen moved to the front of the warriors, their spears providing much needed range against the Melties. Another splat, and more hissing. A small crack appeared in the wall.
“To the streets, the Glooples will have less room to maneuver!” someone called over the sounds of the night. No one argued, it seemed like a great idea.
The warriors ran to the streets, and the spearmen stayed close in the front, reading their spears.
Z calmed himself once more, and focused on the ground. A loud crunch sounded, and Z knew the wall had been compromised. Z expected a flood of Glooples to swarm into the streets, but instead…There was nothing…
“Um…Where are they?” A warrior asked over the cannon fire and sirens.
Suddenly, a loud hiss erupted all around them. The warriors looked around.
“Oh…god, the building, their melting the building!” Z yelled, but he was too late. With a loud crash, the building themselves started to crash and crumble around them. A few warriors were killed by the avalanche of falling debris, but a majority escaped unharmed. But now they were in the open; the buildings around them were nothing more then piles of rubble.
For a while, silence loomed over the men. The sirens had apparently been shut off, and all the cannons were destroyed. The silence was broken by a growl, followed by more.
All around the warriors, growls pierced the silence of the night.
Z looked around to spot the source, and saw the last the he wanted to see. On the top of a pile of rubble, a Biter loomed. Biters were the most aggressive Gloople. Blue in color, they had a complex digestive system and very large teeth. They could launch themselves multiple feet, and munch on their adversaries.
“Biters!” Z called as he prepared himself. All around the warrior group, Biters appeared. Without warning, a single Biter charged, and the battle commenced.

Z raised his sword and yelled. The warriors around him charged. Their cover blown, it was pointless to hold up in a small group, they would be better off attacking solo.
Z ran into battle. A Biter charged him, but he raised his sword and cut it off mid-air. The Gloople splattered. Two more move upon him.
One Biter jumped. Z dodged the attack, but tripped and smashed into the ground. The other Biter leapt into the air. Z pointed his sword straight up, and halted the Biters advance. The Biter, still on the sword, continued try to bite Z, he quickly jumped back to his feet, and smashed the blue Gloople down on the ground. It exploded in a mist of blue particles. Z lost track of the other Biter. He quickly scanned the area, but saw nothing. He felt a sharp pain in his leg, and looked down to see a Biter firmly attached to his leg. He swung his sword and split it in half. The beast slowly slid down from his leg. He quickly looked up, to see another Gloople monster rushing him.
This yellow Gloople, known as Stickies, exploded upon contact with an enemy, covering the attacker in a think yellow slime. The slime greatly slowed anything that it touches.
Z dodged out of the way of this yellow monster, and landed hard on his sholder. He quickly turned to see the Stickie smash into a Biter. The Stickie exploded and covered the Biter in its slime. The Biter began to move, slowly, towards Z. Z got up, raised his sword, and ended the vicious little monster.
After an hour of non-stop battle, the Glooples were defeated. The warriors let out a triumphant victory cry. Although nearly half their numbers were killed, not very often did the humans get a victory.
John, the leader of the village, assembled the remaining warriors.
“We have won an important battle today, but this is far from over.” John continued “We can never beat these little monsters unless we destroy their nest. I need 10 warriors to accompany me to their nest, to destroy it, volunteers?”
At first, no one raised their hands, but slowly, a handful of warriors volunteered. Z noticed that Trevor and Alex had volunteered, so he to raised his hand.
“You are brave men. Get ready, we move out in 4 hours. Everyone else, meet up with the rest of the villagers and protect them.”
With that the majority of the warriors left the village, but a handful of the braves warriors remained, and prepared for the fight ahead.

Chitown's game of the week: Amorphous+

Every so often there is a game; a game that is simple, repetitive, and yet with that limited concept is truly fun. Amorphous+ is one of those games! Amorphous+ does not have the “awesome” graphics, it does not have a rich deep story line, and it does not have a “blow you away” combo system. But yet, without all that, it manages to get you to play it, and continue to play it. And enjoy playing it. Why? Simple and yet highly enjoyable gameplay, if there was a game that could sure you why gameplay makes the game, not graphics, or music, or shock value, Amorphous+ would by the top of the list.

Now let’s talk about the game itself: Basically you play a guy with a sword in a little game area, and you attack little things named “Glooples” (Most of which look like blobs of jelly). You have three modes to choose from: Practice, Single Nest, and Bounty Run; practice is as it sounds. Single Nest is where you take on a set amount of enemies. Bounty Run is, basically, play until you die, the game’s true high score mode. Games start off easy and get progressively hard the longer you play (You can tweak how quickly a bit through the games many difficulty settings). This all goes back to why does the game get such positive responses’ from players; it had a rating well over 4 before it got badges and a card challenge, and seems to still have a rating over 4. Maybe it’s the in-game achievement system, maybe it’s all the music in the game? I’m not sure, but what I can tell you is, even though I am playing the game mostly for badges, I enjoy playing it; I want to play it as I’m writing this right now….. Okay I just played it again for 20 minutes, got frustrated by dying coursed out the game, and now as I’m writing this next sentence already want to play it again! I have heard a few people say the game is boring and ask “what do people see in this game” No one can be truly sure, but I think it’s that that game requires very little thought, and is in an odd way pretty relaxing. You can just zone out and mindlessly kill these very cartoony evil creatures, and getting a better score becomes somewhat addicting.

Graphics 7/10
Not the bread and butter of the game, but it doesn’t need to be. They aren’t bad though; you get all the “splatter” effects when you kill a gloople. The animations are also pretty good (even though it somewhat looks like your guy swings his sword with moving his arms!) but they aren’t top notch. So I’m giving it a 7, better then a lot of games, but not quite at the premier level.

Sound 10/10
The sound is very nice; you have all the effects you could hope for and more. You also have 11 (What I counted) songs in the game. How this game is under 10 MBs I have no idea! Most of the songs are very “sim city ish” which don’t really fit in the game, but I’m not going to complain.

Scoring 10/10
Has everything you could want, and Greg even says this is one of the best implementations of the API he has seen in a while.

Bug report 8/10
Only a few little glitches like you kill a gloople and its “killer juice” splats on you instead of away from you. Other than a few situations like that there’s no problems.

Overall 10/10
What can I say, the game is addicting, fun, last able, and has no real weak areas. The beauty is in the simplicity. Any game that can get players to want to play it as long as Amorphous+ can, has done most everything right.

UnderDog Week

UPDATE-Due to a few bugs in the Kongregate system underdog week has been delayed until NEXT MONDAY. greg is so very sorry, but we do get a free badge out of it so it's not that bad.

August, the month of Greg, and now UnderDog week! UnderDog week starts this Monday. But what is UnderDog week you ask? Greg is going to give one game which he think of as an underdog (games that may not have the best art, may have a few bugs, and probably aren't rated to well) a badge (maybe two) and a points challenge. The points challenges look to be around 10-20 points, nothing to hard for you, but hopfully enough to get to know a game that you may not have seen before, or just looked over. And guess what if this goes well Greg might do it again in Octorbor! How can you make it go well? DO NOT leave nasty comments and down-rate the games, and of course have fun!

If you would like to suggest a game, or give your feedback about it, do so here.

Chitown's game of the week: Protector:RtT

Another great game from Undefined, and a great sequel to the original Protector! Protector: Reclaiming the Throne while still running the same basic engine as the original protect manages to keep its self fresh by introducing a new skills tree and Mage & Warrior upgrade system. Protector: RtT keeps everything we loved about the original and manages to add on to it, you could almost call Protector: RtT, Protector 2.0; it really is the same basic game, just with a slight upgrade in most areas. Possibly the best improvement over the first is improved level balancing, and difficulty settings. Protector RtT has three difficulties, easy, the standard medium, and hard (which is only unlocked after you beat medium). One compliant of mine though is pretty much all the maps from the original Protector are reused; even though the levels are balanced differently it feels like a bit of a “cop-out”. I also would have liked to have seen more than 22 maps, although the different difficulty settings ease the pain a bit it still would have been nice to see 30 or 35 different maps. One more thing I would like to have been included would be an “auto send” feature having to confirm (Twice!) to send a wave quickly gets tiring. Don’t get me wrong here Protector is a truly awesome game, it really is, but in some ways it feels a bit rushed. One can just hope that the next Protector will be truly “new” (New maps, creatures, mages, ECT).

Graphics 9/10
The graphics in Protector are pretty good, and about as good as any other Flash tower defense game out there. In addition to the good graphics the backgrounds behind the “game-board” are really deep in most cases and add to the games atmosphere greatly. I would like to see some improvement on the game-board itself though. The water, grass, dirt, ECT could be much richer then they are. Overall nice graphics; they do more then they need to.

Gameplay 10/10
Ah gameplay, the bread and butter of any tower defense game. And Protector does not disappoint. The biggest difference in between the original Protector and Protector: RtT is the depth of the gameplay and the added strategy. The added upgrade options and a harder difficulty, and as I also mention above, the better map balance have made for a richer, better gaming experience. Protector also has so much in terms of lastabilty if you decide to go and beat “hardcore mode” you could get up to around 30+ hours of gameplay! And that is really good for any flash game.

Sound 9/10
Protector: RtT has all the sounds it needs to truly make you feel like you’re in a medieval battle field, more or less at least. Only one compliant in the sound department: there is only one song for the menus would be nice to have a couple options. And yes Protector has one of the most important features of any game; the sound button.

Bug Report 10/10
I have yet to find a bug!

Scoring 10/10
As most Kongregate-sponsored games Protector has a ton of stats, all of which report to Kongregate. No complaints here!

Overall 10/10
Protector was such a rich, deep, beautiful game, and Protector: RtT only adds to it. I’m not one to down-rate a game because it’s too much like the original, even more so when the original was so good. Yes it takes a while to “pick up and play” but all good games do. Now us Protector fans just have to wait until the third.

For all those aspiring Diggmark1 artists, show off your style here.
Contest Here.
Forum topic courtesy of Johnson1984.

The reason I post this is not for you but for us. As you all know, Diggmark1 is the Kong Capital of Ikariam, and we need some stuff done to show that. We've started an art contest to help with our ikariam goals. You don't have to be on Ikariam to help us out. The winner of the contest will have their art showcased on or as several user's avatars. These users will most likely be Diggmark1 users, so you can see your beautiful art in the room.

Basically all you need to do is draw a medal depicting some form or army symbol, some sort of navy symbol and a symbol with a shield on it that will be depicted as the size of an avatar (bearers of this medal can use it as their avatar or can resize it to place on their avatar). The best medal wins in each seperate category, so if you want to prove yourself as a Diggmark1 artist, hit up the link and post your stuff on the forums.

Contest ends next Wednesday and the best 3 medals will be picked. We will notify you if you win the contest.
