So in a round a week a so I'll make an avatar with as many users' avatars as possible. So if you want to change your avatar to something else do so soon!!! Also spots are limited so call your place so I don't forget you!

The DM1 blog wants you!

Some of you may have noticed that the blog hasn't been very active lately. Because I can't do it all myself (Actually I could but I'm lazy!), I would like to get some "fresh blood" for the blog.

What would I write about?
Anything related to kongregate is awesome (game reviews, news, interviews, walkthroughs). Or could just be fun stuff. (Appropriate, keep it PG-13!). Maybe you even have stories to share?

If you want to write for the blog, create a google/blogger account. And leave me a profile whisper with the email it's registered to.

Challenge 23: Burn it all!

Damijin needs yet more food! So, we're playing his second game, Pyro! Pyro is a really well done game kind of like the "bloons" games; where you have to lite up a certain number of torches to pass the level. This weeks challenge is for the most levels completed. There are 44 levels, and the game isn't that hard, so if you try you should get you name on the blog. Have fun, and good luck!

Happy Birthday chi!

WOOOOOO! It's chi's birthday today, everybody! Mr. DM1 is officially joining the ranks of the Great Age, SEVENTEEN. I mean, I'm 17, Ghostie is 17, Nick was 17 at one point in time. I'm sure there are other awesomeawesome DM1ers who are 17, but none come to mind at the time. But really, what a fantastic age to be, amirite? In celebration, I think we should all go do something amazing on Kong in honor of Mr. chitown's big day. What that's going to be isn't my job to decide, so get crackin' on ideas, folks!

Anyway, Happy Birthday chi, WE LOVE YOU!
Also, enjoy the cake.

Also also, JOSH IS THE GREATEST 17 YEAR OLD EVER.

GODS OF PHOTOSHOP

The challenge has surfaced. It was merely a matter of time.

The battle ground is photoshop. The prize is... uhh...

We'll get back to the prize later.

The first challenge:
Step 1: mask out as much of this as you can, leaving just the white vine thing: This son of a gun here

Step two: Find waldo, and then add him in somewhere. Of course, the waldo in this picture

Step three: Take less than 3 filters to the final image, and most astounding picture wins.
Stated again, your final project should have the found waldo, the masked vine together, and with a few(less than 3) filters thrown on.

No coloring, but gradients excepted.

Now, if you manage to complete this, you probably won't have much competition. No go forth and SLAY THE UNWORTHY.

A new inKREDible feature

Late last night kongregate launched its "Kred" system. The idea of the Kred system is to allow users to tip developers, and more so in the future to buy extras for Kongregate's premium games. Lets take a deeper look at them, shall we?

That is the "Tip Jar" here you can give developers some of your Kreds, which they will receive in the form of cash in their revenue report. The main purpose of this is to help out developers whoms games you love. (I would highly suggest only donating to amiture developers, not someone like "Armorgames")

The next thing is you will now be able to buy Kongai card you don't have. Ans even be able to buy new release cards before they get challenges. Any card you don't have will have a "Add To cart" option. Ypu'll be able to see all the cards you've selected at the bottom of your card album. The running price right now is 10 kreds a card, or 1 dollar

The last thing you'll be able to do is buy more leaves, more features, and more custablity in some of the upcoming premium games.

You can also see how many kred are on your account from your profile page. If you don't have any kreds you won't see the option below your sex on you profile page.

The Ultimate Horror Scenario Survival Guide.

Random post time! (Because I was bored)

Nearly everyone has seen a Horror movie, and according to a statistic I just made up, 90% of people will find themselves in a horror movies type scenario at least once. Following this simple guide can nearly assure your survival should that situation ever arise.

Section 1: General Rules

For starters, there are a few base rules that you should always follow:
1. Never go anywhere alone, this always ends badly.
2. Never "investigate" The strange sound, this will also end badly.
3. Always travel in large groups, preferable over 5 people.
4. Never assume the "Bad Guy" is dead. Chances are they are some kind of superhuman and can sustain massive amounts of damage before they actually die.
5. Always keep a level head. People who mindlessly rush off or go crazy never last long.
6. Don't be a jerk. Jerks always die in the worst possible way.
7. Never attempt to hot wire a car, it never works and takes too much time.
8. If you see and individual or group of people who look like they know what they are doing, stick with them. They are probably a main character(s).

Following those rules can significantly increase your chances of survival, but, being that each scenario will be different, these rules may not work in some cases. If you find yourself in a situation where these rules may not apply, remember, USE YOUR HEAD! No weapon is better then your brain.

Section 2: Special cases. (Aliens, Mutants, etc)

But what do you do if you find yourself facing a smarter, faster, deadly opponent? Surely this spells the end for you! Not true at all, even against a seemly stronger (Or smarter) enemy you still stand a chance. "How?" you may be asking. Good thing you're reading this guide.

The most common "Special Cases" include Aliens, Mutants, Supernatural entities (Werewolves, Vampires), and Zombies (Which will be covered later in a different section).

Lets start with Aliens.
Aliens can come in all shapes and sizes, so it's nearly impossible to come up with one set of rules. Although there are a few rules that can apply to most extraterrestrial encounters...

1. Make sure the aliens are hostile. Too many times have humans bravely killed an alien, only to learn later that it wanted nothing more then to help.
2. Never assume our weapons will have any affect on the aliens, they have traveled the universe, I highly doubt our tiny boomsticks will have any affect on their infinitely more powerful machines.
3. If (When) Aliens conquer our world, never assume the military has everything "Under control". Chances are they are being royally dominated by our extraterrestrial guests.

Now for Mutants...
Mutants are a interesting case. They can also very greatly, similar to aliens in that regard. Although they are (Or rather, were) human, so normal firearms will usually work fine against them. Oh, also, they have a tendency to explode... Watch out for that...

1. As mentioned above, normal human firearms will normally work well in this scenario. Of course, a gun in your hand does NOT equal safety.
2. 98% of mutant outbreak cases take place in abandoned science labs and/or military bases, so weapons and ammo should never be a problem.
3. A popular tactic (used by civilian and military personnel alike) is the "Bait 'n Kill". A majority of the survivors/squad sets up at a defensible position, preferable a choke point. Once they set up, a single runner attracts all the mutants in the area (Usually by yelling profanities) and retreats back to the defense point. As the mutants emerge, they are quickly destroyed.
4. Above all, know they layout of the location. Knowledge is the key to victory.

And finally, Supernatural entities...
Supernatural entities, such as vampires and werewolves, are actually quite easy to survive against, and even kill. Most have a single, fatal weakness. For Vampires, it's sunlight. For Werewolves, it's silver. Once you know your enemies weakness, it should be easy to exploit it.

Section 3: Zombies.
Ah zombies, a personal favorite of mine, and today's society. Nowadays, who doesn't have a "Zombie Plan"? How hard can it be, really? Hit 'em in the head, problem solved. But have you ever tried aiming a pistol when there are 20 shambling creatures quickly approaching you? The answer, I would assume, is no. I could probably make a list of hundreds of rules, but I'll keep it short and sweet, and only include the most important ones, I wouldn't want you to lose focus and stop reading (assume that hasn't happened already...).

1. Stick to a group, there is power in numbers.
2. When facing a single zombies, or a small group, refrain from using firearms of any kind, as it will only attract more zombies to your position.
3. Bikes > Cars. Always.
4. Remember, a shot to the BRAIN kills them, not necessarily a shot to the head.
5. Most importantly, establish a base of operations. A fort, if you will, where you can hold up for months, even years at a time. Stock it with enough food and supplies for numerous years, and protect it from not only zombies, but bandits as well.

Well, there you have it. A small guide to staying alive. I hope when you find yourself in a horror movie situation, you remember these important rules. More important then anything else, use your head. You can survival almost any situation by just using your brain.

Behind the Kong: API checking with "info"

This is the first (And hopefully not the last) "Behind the Kong". I hope to point out little known facts about kongregate, to help users further understand how the site works, and its history.

Anyone who often reads Greg's posts about badge creation will know he checks any game's API before giving it badges. He does this to make sure there will be no bugs, or "cheats" for getting the badges, or problems with receiving them. To Check the API you can add ?debug_level=3 to the end of any games URL. E.G. http://www.kongregate.com/games/Nabb/idle-2-konquest?debug_level=3

If you've done that, you'll notice that when you first 'boot' up the game the chat is flooded with stats, before the chat itself is even loaded. Once the chat is loaded normally after the chat loads the first five messages stored in the server, you'll get a few messages like you see to the left. Noticeably the all important "Hello message received from server" that's the first step to a game having API. (It means that the server is communicating with the game).

Side note, if you get that message you chatlight will be green. (At least to my knowledge, might be a few firewalls that prove it wrong)

Now, as you start to do things in the game you may notice that some messages may "pop up", these are telling you of attempts to communicate with the server. See the first highlighted message to the right saying "Events:27798" that is what the game's API is reporting. (Anyone who has played idle know that you get a new "Event" every ten seconds) So now (Unless the API is faulty) my "Event" score should be updated to 27798. I will know whether it worked or not be further reading the API! As you can see it later reports "Events:success" that means the API was successfully reported to the kongregate servers, and my score will be updated!

You may also notice that any givin game's API may report differently, Idle for example reports "Events" after you get three of them, so your chat will become filled with "info". While so games may only report when you load up, or save a game.

There's plantey more info on Kongregate's Info account!

Kongregate Tools Directory

As some of the more frequent forum users may have noticed, there's a new sticky in the Kongregate forum; it being the Kongregate Tools Directory. Here's some of the stuff you'll find in the Kongregate Tools Directory:

Kongregate Desktop Widget (By arcaneCoder): This widget allows you to see all your online friends, and sort them by VIPs, room, Kong status, and also allows you to view Modfriends friends to quickly find a mod.

Kongregate Sidebar FireFox Extension
(By CaptainCaveman): This allows you to quickly view all your achieved badges,un-achieved badges, friends on, and personal stats. (Screen shot)

Forum update: Muting, quoting & reporting [greasemonkey script] (By arcaneCoder): This is a god send to forum users; it allows you to quickly mute users, report users, and quote users.

Kongregate signature for other forums (By Matt): This is a quick html run forum signature, that displays: Your level, total points, amount of friends, your avatar, and last game played.

The weird Ikariam guy wants you!

Many of you probably do not know this, but Kongregate (Mostly DM1) has it's own Ikaraim.org alliance (ON THE IOTA SERVER)! And we need some "fresh blood"!

Q What is Ikaraim?

A Ikariam.org is a MMORPG, in short. The long answer is it's a strategy pretty slow moving develop and conquer game. You build up your empire, join an alliance, and build new colonies. Not to mention waging war on others.

Q How should i go about joining the mighty kong alliance?

Firstly, MAKE SURE YOU SIGN UP ON THE IOTA SERVER!!! If you don't sign up on the Iota server you will not be able to join the kong alliance. Then start developing your colony, once you do some researching build an Embassy, search kong and apply for membership. Make sure you mention youre from kongregate and you should be allowed into the alliance ASAP.

Q Any tips for starting?

See the kongregate forum topic on it, and the always helpful ikariam wiki.

Here's a few screenshots if you need some convincing!

Argue (About everything, well within reason)

Kongreagte's first premium game was released yesterday, the game is, Argue (About Everything). In Argue you pick debates with your opponents, over any variety of issues; anywhere from "Mario is better the Sonic", to Obama is better the McCain.

While being a "premium" game, argue has no "buy" there will only be one other premium game that won't have purchasable component. That is both a good and a bad thing; on one hand you have every part of the game, on the other there isn't more to it, should you indeed really like it.

Argue is also very interactive, when you're arguing your arguments will appear on the main screen for everyone to see. The interactivity is by far among the best I have ever seen in a flash game. You can create arguments; debate anyone; even upload images for your argument. The game also has a full in-game scoreboard run through kongregate. (Which right now our very own TheGhostGamer is on top of. GO GHOST!)
The gamplay itself is pretty simple: you send your arguments it your opponents, and attempt to try to cover more ground. It uses a a "rock, papers, scissors" system for which argument beats which. As I said, the game is pretty simple, but yet has a good amount of strategy at the same time, which tends to make it "Love it or hate it". You will either be addicted, or be board within 3 games. It should be noted that games themselves only last a couple minutes, five at most.

It should also be noted the Argue will get badges, and maybe even a DM1 game night. The badges might have to wait until the servers get updated though.

Shoot up them tutorials!

Today Kongregate launched its “Labs” section along with its “shootorials” series. The idea behind these is to help new developers create a basic game. Along with the shootorials series the Labs also has a forum, and soon “new developers” kits; which will provide new developers with art and codes, among other things.

Oh yeah, did I mention that the person that uploads the best rated game, who hasn't yet uploaded a game will win extra prize money. See contest rules here

You may also notice that anything that has to do with the shootorials will have a black background with a graffiti look; this is because the shootorials were sponsored by Scion.

And here's the link to the above mentioned forum.

Get developing, NOW!

Quirks - Cake Shop

*starts new category*
Quirks is a new category devised by me to rule the blo-- *ahem*. Anyway, they'll have awesome things that I like, and you might. Enjoy!

In games these days, it's hard to find games that are high quality, fun, enjoyable, entertaining, and laughable at the same time. In fact, there is only one on Kongregate. No, it isn't Sunny, Protector, Simple Maze Game, or Hedgehog Launch. No, it's a game with much more heart than that - elefun's Cake Shop. To truly understand the marvels that this game is, one must look no farther than the opening tutorial.

As the Good Book (well, imaginary voice on your screen, hereafter referred to as the Cook Book) says, "Take the Apple Jam. Now throw it in the bin." This classic sentence sets the mood for the rest of the enthralling game. You are able to earn upgrades. I'll spoil just two of these so you can more fully realize the goodness that the game is: a Cotton Candy machine, and a Pomegranate Juice dispenser. Who would have thought that these would inspire so many. This game is in highly good taste - pun intended. With that, I urge, you, in no uncertain terms, take up the Cake Shop, and don't disappoint the customer.

Cake Shop receives the Quirk Badge (can someone make one please?)!

Hidden Gem: Starfighter Defender

Most of us know about Starfighter Disputed Galaxy, the very popular multiplayer strategy/action/ a star treks fans dream game. And because SF: DG was/is so popular Ben Olding (DJStaika) decided to make a turret defense game to celebrate its one year anniversary. Starfighter: Defender puts you right back into the Starfigher universe and doesn’t disappoint. The game actually looks just like SF: DG except this time you’re playing from the space stations prospective. The game is really solid, and should not be a hidden gem at all; the ratings should be .50 higher in my opinion.

The game has no weak points except that the game can get a little repetitive, other than that I dare you to find a flaw in it. I mean the graphics are great, the gameplay is smooth, and the sound is awesome. And if you’re a fan of the game there’s replay value in playing as both aliens and humans, and trying to improve your score. The game also has API scoring for all the high-scores.

I think if there’s another underdog week Starfighter: Defender stands a great chance of getting a badge or two.

Starfighter: Defender receives my Hidden Gem Award!

New game night

With Acrony night dying and the idea of game nights being popular i think we should try to do more of them. So what games should have game nights, and when?

A few possible games are:

Acrony
Kongregate Racing
Click Upon Dots
Artillery Live
Kongai

Or maybe something I overlooked. And what night do you guys think would be cool? Keep it Saturday, or maybe a week night.

Leave a comment, or post your thoughts in the forum topic for this.

Hidden gem: Ba-Boing

Whatever happened to the cute friendly games of old? Well in short they got put down thanks to games with BFGs. Now, don’t get me wrong here, I love BFGs as much as the next guy, but I still enjoy a nice “happy” game. But why, you ask? It reminds me very much of the old “Mario” like NES games that I grew up on, even though I should have gotten a SNES or a N64, thanks dad! But I digress…

Ba-Boing is a simple, fun strategy game where you have to guide your bears to the wormhole to get to the next stage. None of the puzzles are hard to figure out, some take good timing, but the game itself is fairly easy. Ba-Boing also has no real weak areas: The gamplay is good, the graphics and artwork is very good, and the sound and music is also top notch (I love the “yay!” your bear says when he gets to the wormhole). The only somewhat weak areas are the replay value you can easily beat the game in 30 minutes or less, and the bug factor; the game can feel very glitchy at times.

Also note that the co-developer of Ba-Boing, crazycruiser is a true friend of DM1. He helped me a ton when I first took DM1 (He was actually going to be a room mod before they got canned.), and he deserves a lot of credit for DM1 being what it is today.

So friend vote the hell out of Ba-Boing!

Ba-Boing earns my Hidden Gem award.

Challenge #10: D-Challenge

First of all, i would like to apologize that i didnt get this challenge out yesterday as i was fairly busy... Anyways for this weeks challenge game i have chosen D-Blocks. In this game you must remove all the blocks from the screen using the arrows at the side of the screen (There is an in-game tutorial which explains it better so I'm not going to go into much detail) This week's challenge is to complete as many levels as you can (If multiple people manage to complete all 20 i will decide the winner by how fast they complete them)

Chalenge #9: Thinking Outside Of The Box

Hello, for this weeks challenge I bring you Flash Gear Solid VR: The NIKITA Missions. In this game you must destroy all the targets (Large Blue Games)  in one level as fast as possible to , run to the little white light being the finish to complete the level and get the fastest score you can. This weeks challenge is to complete the hardest level you can, as fast as possible (Level 1 being easiest - Level 20 being the hardest) Like the Pinwheels challenge if no one completes the hardest level (Level 20) then I will move down to the next hardest level (Level 19) and if no one complete that i will move down once again (Level 18) ... etc... Good Luck and Have Fun! =D

Kongai tournament stuff

So everyone. To make this as short as possible: Entombor2 got himself perma-banned by request (personal reasons) so needless to say he is out of the tourny. So M_dawg will advance to the next round. Also Markson didn't think it would be fair to just "jump in" on the tournament. So since physcomonkey lost by a random draw he will take marks place.

So the semi-finals look like this

chitown15
vs
M_dawg

Seph
Vs.
Physcomonkey

Hidden Gem: Grapnel

Another hidden Gem, and an oldie at that! It was actually going to be the one of the first DM1Challenge games, but I kept putting it off until we ran out of challenges. The game is Grapnel; Grapnel is one of those “spider man” games where you swing your character around obstacles. It is a far cry better than most of the other “spider man” games out there. For one, it has stats and keeps score of everything possible, and has Kongregate API; it also doesn’t feel “buggy” at all. The graphics are pretty good, could have a deeper background, but art isn’t the easy part of a game of making a game (Trust me!). I think the reason why I generally like games like Grapnel, is that you can just pick up and play them, you don’t have to think. You don’t have to spend 10 minutes going through a tutorial. Maybe it’ll finally get a DM1 Challenge, sooner or later.

So, Grapnel receives my Hidden Gem badge!

Kongai Tournament, round three!

So, everyone besides Physcomonkey, and Ferretferret were able to play their match. So I randomly picked the winner of their match. I flapped a coin, PMK was heads, Ferret was tails; the result was tails so ferret moves on.

The bracket for this round is

Ferretferret
Vs.
chitown15

M_dawg
Vs.
entombor2

Seph
Vs.
Joshhh

Just going to let you all know how the next round is going to work; the winner of the Seph Vs. Josh match will play Markson. Since he wanted in on the tournament, and is an excellent player i thought it would be better to have him play instead of a previously eliminated player.

Challenge #8: The Massively Critical Challenge

As this weeks game... I have chosen Game: Critical Mass. In this game you must run around collecting critical mass, to gain critical mass you must collect the little yellow/black circles. The more critical mass you gain, the more enemies there are on the field. Also once you collect enough critical mass your character will turn orange and explode upon contact with an enemy dot gaining you points, once you have reached this orange state every piece of critical mass you collect will increase your multiplier which determines how many points you will get. Your goal this week is to gain as many points as possible. Good Luck and Have Fun!

Hidden Gem: Drop My Knight

You probably will never hear Drop My Knight mentioned in any “good games” talk, but it is a simple, addictive, and an oddly relaxing game. In Drop My Knight you fling you knight and watch him drop down and hit things; you get points based on how hard the hit was, and which body part hit. There’s no real skill needed, nor strategy, but it’s a great “chatting game”; you can play at you own place, and have to do very little. And in a very odd way it’s quite calming to watch the “knight” plummet to his death. The game isn’t really gory, some blood effects, but it’s nothing shocking in the world of flash games.

So Drop My Knight receives my Hidden Gem badge!

ZOMG new Kong banner!

Wow, new looking Kong! Well, only the banner really, but it's still cool!

You'll notice that everything is divided into categories that have "drop down menu bars". You'll also notice that you now sign out next to your name, not the far right corner.

So, what does everyone think? I personally like it a lot more; everything is a little more accessible, and easier to get to. But what do YOU think?

Chitown's Game of the week: Warlords Heroes

Warlords: Heroes is Ben Olding’s, AKA DJStatika’s latest game. It takes two of his previous games and combines them into a hybrid game. Which runs on Achilles game engine, and takes its art and story line from Warlords: Call to Arms. This has led to some criticism that this game is just a rip off, and an easy way to get some money. First off, this is not an easy way to get some money; he added a ton on both aspects of the game. He also can’t rip off his own property. If you forget about Achilles, and Warlords: CtA, Warlords: Heros is a truly genius game. Even if you compare it to those games it’s still a really big improvement. So be fair to Warlords Heroes, and don’t bash it because it reminds you of Achilles.

Graphics 9/10
The graphics are very good for a side-scrolling game. Each area has its own rich deep moving backgrounds; and the characters are all pretty well drawn. The animations are also very well done.

Sound 10/10
The music is good, and the sound effect are just awesome; no complaints in this department.

Scoring 10/10
DJStatika did an amazing job with the API. It scores and reports everything. Here’s a trick put ?debug_level=3 after a games URL to see API report.

Bug report 10/10
I have found none…unless you count the archers sometimes getting a shot off without their heads a bug…hmmm

Overall 9/10
Great game, only complaint is that it’s like another game, but that’s not fair to this game at all. Maybe a little bit longer replay value.

Epic Story, Part 1

He exhaled deeply into the frosty air, his breath rising slowly before him. The stillness of the air which surrounded him bore false witness to the maelstrom which raged overhead. A tangled mass of blue-purple clouds roiled overhead, bringing with them an unnatural dusk to what should have been a sunny afternoon. Another cloudy breath escaped his lips as arcs of lightning raked across the clouds overhead, and a quiet rumble of thunder echoed across the landscape. The frigid air around him reeked of death. He barely noticed the abrupt change in temperature from his perch atop the hill. As his almost crystalline blue-green eyes scanned the flatlands ahead, his angular jaw set itself into a dark scowl. Before him lay the ruined wastes of a small town. It's blackened walls were shattered in innumerable places. Behind the broken shell of the wall that was meant to protect the people inside from harm he could see the battered remains of houses, shops, small parks and inns. Some had their roofs torn off, others had gaping holes through them. Fire gutted many of the sturdier structures, while others had clearly been obliterated.

He knew this foe. He had little doubt the occupants of the structure were still inside when it was destroyed. It looked as if a great battle had taken place here. He knew all to well it was little more than a slaughter. There was a time when a scene like this would have torn at his heart, or driven him to a vengeful rage. Back then, he would have wept for the lives lost here. Now there was only a cold indifference to the event. Most emotion had left him long ago. Only the guilt remained.

There was a rustle in the bushes behind him. He breathed in deeply, the leather and mail of his armour creaking with the strain being placed on them by his large and well defined muscles. "You can come out of the bushes now Farah. I know you've been following me since I left camp this morning", he said calmly.

Click "Read more" to continue reading

"Damn it! How do you do that?" came the replied from the now violently shaking bush. Before long, a scruffy looking girl burst forth from the hedge line, enthusiastically brushing the few scattered leaves that clung to her rough clothing off. "I thought I was really careful this time!"

He rose slowly and turned towards her as she strode forward. A small smile cracked out of the corner of his lips as her fierce emerald green eyes locked on his. She smoothed out the locks of her curly dark chocolate brown hair. Coupled with her tanned skin, her bright eyes took on an almost haunting quality. She was still young, but he had little doubt her innate beauty would eventually blossom into something truly angelic. In a way, he felt sorry for all the awkward young boys at camp around her age. With a personality as fiery as the light which burned in her eyes, and a wit as sharp as the point of any sword, she was more than a handful even if she couldn't physically defend herself. He would sometimes laugh when he watched a boy who thought a little more of himself than he should have be taken down by a girl half their size when he would try to put her in her 'proper place as a woman'. He was usually the one helping the boy back to their feet and helping to clean and bandage their bruises.

She stormed up to him and punched him in the stomach as hard as she could. While he was sure she hurt her hand when it made contact with the plate armour that covered his abdomen, she didn't show it. "I'm telling you mister! You had better tell me how you did that, or there is more where that came from!". She grunted and folded her arms in front of her, then stared at him with a disapproving frown. If the situation wasn't so grave, he would have laughed.

"Why are you here Farah?" he replied in a serious tone.

"I should be asking you that question! Why did you come all the way out here? Chi said no was was supposed to leave the protection of the camp! Not for any reason So why did you? Did you tell anyone you were leaving? Since you didn't tell me, I'm guess that answer is a no. And why is it so cold here?" She rubbed her arms in and vain effort to warm them.

He knelt down in front of her so their eyes were at the same level and put his large hands around her upper arms, offering her some of his warmth. "Do you remember....when we fled the capital city 6 months ago...do you remember why we fled?" he asked in an even tone. Some of the colour drained from her face.

"Yes", was her only reply.

There was another flash of lightning that lit up the sky, followed by a loud clap of thunder. Farah jumped as the thunder rolled past, despite his reassuring grip on her arms. There was a brief silence as the thunder died out before an inhuman growl roared forth from the ruins of the town in the valley. The guttural sound was filled with hunger, and rage. The fire that once burned in Farah's eyes now flashed with fear, and the horror of the memories of her flight from the capital city.

"The..thing...that we ran from that day. It's down there. Now." What colour she clung to until now drained completely from her face.

"It's been tracking us...me...For months now. I was hoping I could hide, that we could run and be safe. But even there I was wrong, and the people in that town...like all the others...paid for that mistake" he said in a somber tone.

"What? What do you mean? What are you talki..." she tried to reply before she was cut off by another, louder growl and the sound of wood and stone being shattered. His grip tightened around her arms and he shook her slightly to refocus her attentions to him.

"Farah, it is time for you to go back to camp." The deadly seriousness of his tone was something she had never heard or seen before. Her lower lip began to quiver as tears began to form in her frightened green eyes. He reached up and snapped off the chain around his neck. Attached to it was a scarred silver medallion. He took the medallion and pressed it into her hands and closed her fingers around it. "Now listen to me carefully. Give Chi this medallion and tell him to immediately take the camp, and move them North to the Sanctuary. He'll know what it means. You need to go. Now."

"What? What is going on? What do you mean go? Aren't you coming?" she stammered. He looked deeply into her eyes as he gently shook his head no. "Why" was the only word she could choke out as the tears burst forth and ran down her cheek. She was so young, but already she understood so much. She knew in her heart that he wasn't coming back with her.

He cupped her cheek with his hand and wiped away one of the tears with his thumb. "I'm sorry Farah. I have to do this. It will buy you and the others the time you need to escape." he whispered. He bent forward and kissed her on her forehead. The tears were running freely now. His jaw muscled flexed and he swallowed hard at seeing her like this. He didn't want to see her like this. "Tell Evalynn....Tell her....Everything is going to be ok. Tell her to trust in Chi." He swallowed hard again.

Another inhuman growl echoed out across the plain. The hairs on the back of his neck stood on end and he left go of Farah and spun around. He grunted as the large rock which was hurled towards them from the remains of the town exploded in a shower of dust and pebbles before his armoured fist. Farah screamed as she crouched and threw her arms up to protect her head from the flying debris. "Go now Farah! Run!" he urged.

After it was evident that the rock didn't kill it's intended victims, a howl of rage erupted from the town with such ferocity as to make ones blood curdle. Farah stood there paralyzed in fear. He turned back towards her and screamed "FARAH! RUN!" A sob burst from her lungs as their eyes met, for what they both knew would be the last time. She turned and bolted back the way she came, towards the camp. Her anguished cries haunted the plains as she ran further and further away. It was over now. His last ties to this world severed.

He turned towards the town and drew the sword from it's resting place on his back. As the blade cleared the scabbard, the ring of metal was answered by a blinding flash of lightning from the roiling clouds overhead. The roar of the thunder was almost deafening. He steeled his gaze on the ruined town before him, and drew the blade up in front of him in challenge to the beast below. He knew it could see him, and it roared it's delight at the battle it knew was to come. Teeth barred, he charged down the hill towards the town.

"It ends here....." -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok..you are probably asking yourself "So yeah..What makes this so epic? You suck!". Well my dear friend, what makes this story so epic is that YOU, yes you will write part two. Here is how this works: The first person who posts 'Dibbs' in the comments section is agreeing to write part two. The rules for writing part two? Well, since this is a DM1 thing, you should try to incorporate DM1 characters and events into the story as you can. Beyond that, anything goes. And I mean ANYTHING. Take the story in whatever direction YOU want. Add characters. Kill some off. Add flying saucers, Greg, aliens, zombies, hugglesauce...whatever you want. Even Ukie! After part two is posted, the same set of rules will apply and someone can write part three. Fun right?

So, get to it! XD
